Reisha Perlmutter - Painting Location: tba

My goal as an artist is not to create work about myself. My vision an interpretation of the world inevitably color my work. My own lens with which I interpret the world is intrinsically connected to my soul, something that is fundamentally disparate from my ego. For this reason, my primary goal is to create art that addresses aspects of a universal identity. Humility, faith, hope and love paint our true selves collectively. Yet to understand ourselves through these metaphysical identifiers, we must extend past the limitations within our physical world and ego. A powerful painting is one that supersedes the realm of physical logic, physical laws and even the false perception of time. It is a painting that builds a bridge between the metaphysical world of the eternal and absolute where our identities can exist in full, and transcends the physicality of a false reality and ego. For me, painting people is the one of the most direct ways to encounter a clearer sense of consciousness about the nature of who we are. When we see and feel something about ourselves in another person, the empty sense of our individuality is shattered. When we can register our emotions and memories universally in the context of others, we can see further into who we are beyond our ego.
