EMERSON CALDERON (Sponsored by Eileen Fisher)

Painting Location: NE Corner of 3rd Street South & 13th Avenue South

Emerson Calderon, son of an Immigrant Italian, was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1973. From and early age he demonstrated an inclination toward the fine arts. He began his fine art studies in Venezuela at El Pedagogico de Caracas; later studying illustration and graphic design. After relocating to Miami FL, Calderon completed his classic academic training drawing and painting at “Romero Hidalgo Studios” a studio and curriculum based on the old French Atelier guidelines.

Calderon strongly believes that Art in all its forms is a powerful way to communicate and represent not only the artist's feelings, but also his reality and surroundings.  “An artist is like a journalist with a very important assignment, which is to capture and show the events and characteristics of his time. No matter what medium is used, the artist has the responsibility not only with the public but with himself to create a compelling piece of artwork.

Signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society and Fellow member of the American Institute of Architects. My ongoing series of paintings is titled: "Man on the Edge" and depicts man's propensity to settle where the water meets the land.  The works are poured mixed media, acrylic and watercolor, on stretched canvas and are typically 40" x 40".

Painting on the edge of the Gulf as part of Third on Canvas would be a true manifestation of my body of work.

Cheri Dunnigan is a Master Goldsmith and nationally recognized landscape painter.  Growing up outside of Boston, Massachusetts, she was born with an intense creative drive.  Fortunately she was blesed with parents who recognized and fostered both her artistic interests and her creative ambitions.  As a result she was able to begin to develop her artistic talents from an early age. She made her first piece of jewelry at the age of 15.  This experience lit a passion and set the corse of her studies over the next 7 years.  This led her to the Cleveland Institute of Art where she studied with John Paul Miller and earned a 5 year Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree specifically in Silversmithing in 1978.  Having majored in silversmithing and jewelry design, she worked for many years as a designer craftsman, maintaining a retail sudio and showroom in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

In 1998, cheri was diagnosed with systemic lupis erythmatosis and having lost the strength and dexterity in her hands, it became clear that she would not be able to resume her career as a metalsmith.  At that time she turned her crative talents towrds pastel painting and found a new passion. Almost 7 years to the day of her diagnosis, Cheri received national recognition when she was awarded a Signature Membership with thePastel Society of America. She has exhibited her work nationally and has won numerous awards.

Today, Cheri is healthy and thrilled to be working again in metal. Cheri lives in Naples, Florida with her husband Tim and her son Matthew.  She holds memberships in both the Society of North American Goldsmiths and the Florida Society of Goldsmiths. Cheris' work is represented by the Gallery at the Ritz Carlton Beach Resort and at the Shannon Green Collection in Naples, Florida.

KEN FRASER (Sponsored by Sara Campbell)

Painting Location: SW Corner of 3rd Street South & 13th Avenue South at St. Tropez Home

In my paintings I try to capture the essence of my experiences expressing them in a thoughtful, beautiful,... and creative way. Using light and shadows to illuminate and create a sense of drama. I have a strong desire to share the beauty of nature in my landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. I’m drawn to the light on the landscape in sunsets, moonlight and early morning scenes which I try to portray with semi-realistic color. But also embellishing the color if it’s necessary, to convey how I feel about the scene. I create what excites and inspires me, with color combinations, lighting effects, and contrasts in elements. Painting in rich color and expressive artistic knife-work using heavy textures.

Painting in a semi-realistic manner, but influenced by the great impressionists, I paint in response to my impressions of a scene creating paintings with a semi-controlled spontaneity to them. As an artist, knowing how to use color values, knife-work and composition, I am able to go beyond recording what I see, to create an emotion…a mood, in my paintings. Attempting to convey to the viewer a sense of time, place, and an emotional connection. Expressing myself through my unique knife-work is a crucial component of my art. Each painting differs in texture and detail depending on my mood and the scene. My goal is to create art that inspires and draws the viewer in through the beauty of nature.

Mary Moran grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Florida right after college, eventually settling in Naples in 1976. Mary's love of the southwest Florida environment is expressed through her favorite subjects of landscapes, beaches and quaint cottages.

Karen has an associate degree from Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia for advertising and design, a fine arts degree for art from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania along with minor studies for computer graphics.

Karen has lived on Marco Island, FL since 2004 and summers in Teton Valley, Idaho. She is a retired graphic artist. A once watercolorist, she has moved her focus to oils. “I love the quality, texture and stronger colors afforded by that medium.” Her favorite subject is water lilies. “There is a serenity and mystery to those floating flowers and lily pads that can be captured in a hundred different ways.”

Inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell and Louise Nevelson, Karen also creates assemblages from objects found on the street. Whether walking or out on a bike ride, she picks up discarded, broken or dropped bits of plastic, metal, paper or wooden “treasures”. She then paints the pieces with metallic colors or with a monochromatic color and assembles them in deep frames. The result is a fascinating creation of interwoven shapes and textures.  Titles for the pieces come from markings or text on one of the objects.

Her paintings and assemblages are currently represented by The Local Color Gallery above the Shop of Old Marco on Marco Island, FL.

I am a self taught artist and have been painting professionally since 1988. In the early days I participated in several outdoor art shows in the state of Florida exhibiting watercolors and picking up some awards. From there I moved on to painting wall murals in homes and businesses, while continuing to paint commissions and experimenting with other mediums. I became involved with the local chalk art festivals and worked at Disney MGM Studios during their chalk art Animation Celebration. Most recently I have illustrated a series of children's books called 'The Adventures With Paw Paw' and illustrated a wordless book for the non-profit organization Born 2 Fly. Most of my work is now done in my studio, working in oils and soft pastels. My subject matter centers on Italian scenes, both landscapes and citiescapes and also portraits and figures.
