Third Street South, full of twinkly lights and wonderful red and silver decorations, launches the Holiday Season as the Mayor lights the official Christmas tree. Music and bells resound from every courtyard and plaza, Santa arrives, the crèche is alive at Third and Broad, and…the snow falls – which it continues to do every evening during the week. Christmas on Third Street South is full of joy and spirit.
5:00pm – Christmas on Third begins with holiday music filling the air and the smell of tasty food wafting over the crowds.
5:45pm - Santa, Fairy Snow Mother and Snow King and Queen, families, friends and visitors gather around the tree anxiously awaiting the lighting of the Christmas Tree.
6:20pm – Mayor Bill Barnett throws the switch to light the Third Street Christmas tree and officially starts the holiday season.
6:20pm – As the Mayor lights the tree, the Fairy Snow Mother summons her powers and snow begins to fall on Third Street South
8:00pm – After the initial snow flurries subside, a second snow begins to fall.
9:00pm – Santa must leave in order to get back to the North Pole so he can check in on the elves at Santa's Workshop and have a mug of hot chocolate with Mrs. Claus before going to bed for the night.
The festivities do not stop after Christmas on Third is over. The rest of the week Third Street South continues its celebration of the season with more music and snow...
